Crowne Plaza Syracuse History

About Our Armory Square Syracuse Legacy

A Syracuse, New York Institution

The addition of Crowne Plaza Syracuse, formerly the Renaissance Syracuse by Marriott, is the latest in a long line of hotels to grace this property and its surrounding area. Built in 1969, the hotel first operated as a Holiday Inn. Holiday Inn Syracuse’s convenient location to downtown with easy access to I-81 and I-90 made it a must-stop for business and leisure travelers from around the globe.

After over a decade of operation, Holiday Inn Syracuse became the University Hotel in 1981, and twenty years later transformed into The Marx Hotel and later The Radisson at the Marx Hotel, all the while exemplifying high levels of professional service and customer satisfaction. The Renaissance Syracuse by Marriott opened in 2007, offering stylish design paired with distinctive service.

Today, TJM Properties is happy to support the Crowne Plaza Syracuse. Only blocks away from the world-famous Syracuse University,  OnCenter Complex, Crouse Hospital, SUNY Upstate Medical University, University Hospital and Golisano Children’s hospital, the Crowne Plaza Syracuse offers the same dedication to detail and customer service always seen at this site and ushers it into the future. Crowne Plaza Syracuse features a full revitalization, including a sophisticated new design, a playful dining experience in Redfield’s Restaurant, a state-of-the-art conference center featuring seating for up to 200, and more.

Crowne Plaza Syracuse is thrilled to be a part of such longstanding Syracuse history. The surrounding Armory Square, Syracuse community has witnessed the properties’ long and successful journey as a hospitality exemplar. We invite those from near and far to witness our new facility—a stylish new look for a hotel committed to quality service and customer satisfaction since 1969.
